New Challenges in the Alps

The next big thing of French cycling

2 days

A weekend to discover the big climbs of the French Alps between Maurienne and Tarantaise.

We will climb also the new born among the alpine giants: the Col de la Loze, more than 2.300 meters of altitude, can be rode by bike only since 2019, and the road is reserved for cyclists, everyday!

A good present for us, in an area full of beautiful climbs and roads: it is no coincidence that the 2020 Tour de France will have a stage ending on Col de la Loze’s summit!

The proposed itinerary, with the climbs and difficulties shown here, is, like all DR cycling Tours proposals, fully customizable, as a custom suit, on the needs, tastes, preparation of each client, with maximum flexibility– both by planning the trip, and on the field– thanks to the management in small groups with the assistance of qualified guides and the support of equipped vehicles.

We invite you to contact us, we will be able to elaborate the most exciting travel program and satisfaction for you.

Starting in the beautiful city of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, at the crossroad of epic rides in the French Alps, we will head up towards the 18-switchbacks climb of the “Lacets de Montvernier”, and further on to the wonderful and little-known Col du Chaussy.

The descent on the opposite side will take us directly on Col de la Madeleine’s climb, a nearly 2000 meters giant, twenty-six times appeared in the Tour de France.

Once crossed the pass we will ride down to Tarantaise’s valley floor, in the thermal village of Salins-les-Thermes. In the second day we will head up to Courchevel, the hyper-trendy ski resort which saw the unforgettable last victory of Marco Pantani in 2000 Tour de France.

It’s here in Courchevel that starts the last incredible kilometres of Col de la Loze climb, a road closed to cars till the summit – 2.306 metres! – such as the following descent to Méribel.
A wonderful scenario and a demanding climb, chosen for the finish of the 17th stage of the 2020 Tour de France, that DR Cycling has already seen in preview in August 2019!
