Far from being only a stage for amazing bike rides, the Assietta ridge is a place full of history: here in 1747 a handful of Piedmont soldiers defeated the powerful French-Spanish army attacking the trenches around the Testa dell’Assietta, clearly visible still nowadays.
Fortresses, barracks, military roads testify to the importance of these mountains over the centuries, and give us the opportunity to ride for hours and hours above 2000 metres of altitude among the peaks of the Torino 2006 Winter Olympics.
Many tours are possible, starting in Sestriere, Usseaux (Chisone Valley), Pian del Frais or Sauze d’Oulx (Susa Valley), and bike shuttle service let us avoid transfers on the busiest roads and limit distance and physical effort.
