Our full-immersion in the Dolomites will start in Valsugana, climbing the demanding Passo Manghen.
Once descended in Fiemme Valley, the Alpe di Pampeago – battlefield in the Giro 1998 for Marco Pantani and Pavel Tonkov – will lead us towards the wonderful Carezza lake, Passo Costalunga and Canazei.
Passo Fedaia, lying at the foot of Marmolada – the highest mountain of the region – and Passo Giau will be the key to the doors of Cortina, the pearl of the Dolomiti d’Ampezzo.
Once the Tre Cime di Lavaredo are overcomed, a climb as harsh as full of history (ask Eddy Merckx what he thinks about!) we’ll reach the Braies lake, and will be the turn of the classic “Sellaronda”, the tour of the four passes Campolongo, Pordoi, Sella, Gardena, in little more than 50 km around the most magnificent dolomitic group.
We couldn’t finish our ride without climbing Passo Valparola – where the most incredible battles during World War I were fought – and the Passo Rolle, where it all began: it was 1937, the Giro d’Italia discovered the Dolomites and Gino Bartali took the victory.
